My Journey Through the World of Humanitarian Medicine
Finishing residency and entering the humanitarian space full-time came with more turbulence than anticipated, leaving me in a terrible crisis of self-doubt. Against the backdrop of my existential struggles, a horrifying war in Palestine and spiraling conflict in the middle east meant my journey would start close to the action: a joint project between the NGO Pious Projects and the Jordanian military to build a fully active field hospital for women and babies in northern Gaza.
In my role as an ultrasound instructor and assistant coordinator, I gained insight into the complexities behind establishing a medical facility, grappled with feelings of privilege, and confronted my own quest for purpose amid the harsh realities of war and displacement.
